I previously reported that due to ongoing hearings, there’s a possibility that Donald Sterling may still be the owner of the Los Angeles Clippers by the time the 2014-15 NBA season begins. This would be a huge problem for players like Chris Paul, DeAndre Jordan, Blake Griffin and Clippers coach Doc Rivers who are all abhorred with Sterling’s racist remarks and do not want to play for him.
Chris Paul told ESPN.com that it’s “unacceptable” if Donald Sterling is still the owner of the team when the season begins.
Paul also said he has spoken to coach Doc Rivers about the possibility of sitting out if Sterling remains in control when the seasons starts in a little more than two months.
That’s something me and Doc are both talking about,” Paul said Thursday after coaching his AAU program, CP3. “Something has to happen, and something needs to happen soon — sooner rather than later.”
“We’re all going to talk about it,” Paul said. “We’re all definitely going to talk about it. Doc, Blake [Griffin], DJ[DeAndre Jordan]. It’s unacceptable.”
Sterling’s wife Shelly came to an agreement with former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer to sell the Clippers for a record $2 billion. Donald however refutes the claim that he’s mentally incompetent and if the judge agrees with him then Shelly’s sale would become void. Closing arguments in the hearing are set for Monday. If the judge rules in Shelly’s favor things can be wrapped up fairly quickly as the NBA will most definitely approve the sale. If Donald wins that further complicates things and will lead to more court proceedings as he vows to fight ”as long as he lives.”
The NBA has said it will resume termination proceedings for Donald Sterling if the sale if it’s not closed by Sept. 15. Training camp will open in early October.
