More Comic Con goodies.
Fan’s of Naughty Dog‘s The Last of Us can look forward to a feature film based on the popular post-apocalyptic zombie horror video game, as confirmed at San Diego Comic Con. The Playstation-exclusive title released last summer to universal acclaim, receiving positive, near-perfect ratings from critics and garnering over 7 million copies across the globe. Now Sam Raimi, director of the original Spider-Man film trilogy will produce the film alongside Naughty Dog creative director Neil Druckmann who will pen the script.
Druckmann mentioned during a panel at SDCC 2014 that 17-year-old Game of Thrones star, Maisie Williams, is a strong prospect for Williams of Ellie, the co-protagonist in the game. Ellie who was voiced by 30-year-old actress Ashley Johnson will not portray the character as her age compared to the 13-year-old character wouldn’t translate well on screen — but she may have another role in film according to Druckmann. As of yet, Williams has not been signed for the role; Naughty Dog will have final approval on casting and the directing of the film.
The film will be an adaptation of the game’s story line, with several changes. In fact, Druckmann was considering changing the ending of the narrative in the film, but Raimi convinced him not to.
The Last of Us Remastered releases for Playstation 4 this Tuesday — with voice actors Johnson and Troy Baker (who played Joel) and others performing select scenes from the game live the day before at Broad Stage in Santa Monica.
