Wade’s recent comments about moving past Lebron reveal interesting details
Since Lebron James officially decided to return to his ex girlfriend old team, The Cleveland Cavaliers much of the conversation has been centered around who actually knew his decision. In the days and weeks that led up the official announcement there was a great deal of information to consider. The first speculative moment came when Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh decided to opt out of their contract with The Miami Heat, a move that seemed to imply they were more in the know that Lebron would indeed stay; especially when you consider how much money Wade specifically may have cost himself with the move.
Next there was the initial report that Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert’s plane had landed at a Miami airport a week prior to the announcement, although it was confirmed, denied, re confirmed and re denied it; post announcement it was confirmed that Lebron, his most trusted confidant Maverick Carter and Gilbert hashed things out over a long dinner at the Rusty Nail in Miami.
There was also the case of Chris Bosh, who days before Lebron’s announcement had been offered a max contract by the Houston Rockets, and who reportedly told those close to him that if the king departed, he would too. Many took this to mean that he had some kind of inside line on the situation .
The final and seemingly most obvious “ooo it’s gotta be this because of that” moment came when amid the height of speculation, Wade spent nearly two days with James at the side of Lebron James, attending his basketball camp in Las Vegas, NV and then flying home with him to Miami before Lebron departed to Brazil for the world cup. Many (myself included) viewed this as an obvious move of solidarity to his friend and teammate.
Obviously this proved to not be the case, but knowing the details you had to assume that Wade was privy to the information at some point before the rest of the world was. It turns out he was, but barely.
Speaking on whether he was told on the fateful flight home from sin city, Wade said:
“Yeah, I went to sleep knowing….He called me the next day. But I knew then. Obviously he still had to say the final yay or nay, but I knew. I could tell.”
He went on
“As his friend, I’m just supportive…as crazy as that might sound, I’m supportive of my friends doing what makes them happy. Obviously, same thing with him in this situation. You’ve gotta do what makes you happy — selfishly do what makes you happy. The decision to go back home was that.”
As a fan one of the most interesting parts of sports is when the human aspect, relationships, allegiances and the like come in to play, and then seeing how individuals handle themselves and what transpires. The Lebron situation definitely ranks high in that regard. The 2014-2015 NBA season is about to be quite enthralling.
