Happy 24th anniversary to Mo Better Blues
Today marks the 24th anniversary of the classic Spike Lee movie, Mo Better Blues that starred Denzel Washington, Wesley Snipes, and the debut of Cynda Williams. The movie is a about a period in the life of a fictional jazz trumpeter, Bleek Gilliam (Washington), as a series of bad decisions result in his jeopardizing both his relationships and his playing career.
The concepts of the movie are friendship, loyalty, honesty, love, life, music, and ultimately salvation. This was the first time that Washington & Lee worked together but it would not be the last as they worked together in movies like Malcolm X and He Got Game and also he worked with Snipes for the first time too as they worked in the movie Jungle Fever.
This movie also marked the singing debut of Williams as she sung her hit, “Harlem Blues”. Most of the music for the movie was composed by world renowned Branford Marsalis Quartet and Terence Blanchard. The soundtrack featured rap duo Gang Starr. Since the release of the movie, Washington, Lee, and Snipes became legends in their own right.
