National Action Network civil rights activist and MSNBC anchor Reverend Al Sharpton will join the family of Eric Garner tomorrow in a meeting with Loretta Lynch, the US Attorney for the Eastern District of New York.
Eric Garner, a 43-year-old Staten Island father of six died last month after being choked by NYPD officers who were detaining him. Video surfaced where Garner repeatedly stated that he could not breathe while officers used excessive force to hold him down, before going unconscious.
The decision to meet with the District Attorney’s office come’s because of the family’s desire to try the case on the federal level. Just yesterday, New York DA, Daniel Donovan announced that he was convening a special grand jury to review the Eric Garner case.
The meeting between both sides will be held two days before Saturday’s march in Staten Island in response to Garner’s death.
