On the day of the funeral and burial of Michael Brown in Missouri, we get one more heartfelt verse from the Hip-Hop community. Today, Queens’ SHIRT pens his own words to tack onto Lauryn Hill’s “Black Rage” that shows how disappointed he is in the situation as well as resolve to continue pushing forward. This wasn’t simply an obligatory, social change affecting project from SHIRT. He admits that, “Told myself if something came naturally I’d do it.” Lo and behold, as one human to another, he shares his own experiences.
As meaningful as this track is, I pray for the day we won’t need songs like this anymore.
Bryan Hahn hopes something good comes out of all this. He’s on Twitter (@notupstate).
