We only have a few successful black men in our generation. Do they really need to be going at each other when we live in a society that appears not to give a fuck about the black man. Rapper, 50 Cent sparked a beef with his former close friend, boxing champion, Floyd Mayweather many months ago. Why? Who really knows, but the snide remarks have turned into full blown disrespect. It should be no surprise that 50 Cent struck the first “dirty” blow. While the beef was entertaining at first, it has gone too far and is further proof that we as people get distracted too easily. If either one of these men were broke and still in the hood, they could have easily been Trayvon Martin, Eric Gardner or Mike Brown. It’s not their responsibility to carry ALL black men on their shoulders, however, it would be nice if they spent their time leading by example.
50 Cent’s most brazen move was to expose what he says is Floyd’s difficulty with reading. Charlamagne tha God, from 105.1′s Breakfast Club then released an audio tape of Floyd having difficulty making promotional drops. Charlamagne blew his shenanigans off as him needing “ratings.” However, IN MY OPINION it was tasteless and unnecessary. The audio sparked an onslaught of teasing on social media directed at Floyd.
Since when is a black man having difficulty reading or being under-educated funny? Floyd annoys people with his bravado and what appears to be reckless spending, so when his Achilles heel was allegedly revealed (I say allegedly because we really don’t know if he can read or not.) his haters took pleasure in creating memes and posts on Instagram and Twitter attacking him.
Every last person who participated in promoting that audio should be ashamed of themselves. Again, this is MY OPINION, so don’t come for Don Diva- If you disagree with MY OPINION get at me- TIFFANY CHILES directly, I welcome the constructive discussion.
50 Cent and some of the most successful, wealthy Black men in our generation did not graduate high school. Many dropped out because they had to get their grind on to literally help take care of their families. Other’s realized their talents and went for it- knowing that they weren’t going to have too many other options that would allow them to be great. Education was not a priority. The struggles of both 50 Cent and Floyd Mayweather Jr. are common knowledge at this point. Floyd is one of boxings all-time greatest fightest and the highest paid athlete in the world with a net worth of $280 million! 50 Cent is undeniably one of hip-hops most strategic business men that is now worth over $140 million in 2014, according to Forbes.
What is especially disappointing about these 2 extremely successful and wealthy BLACK MEN fighting so childishly is that they appeared to be such good friends. I interviewed them both for Don Diva Magazine ISSUE 46. Throughout my career, I have interviewed dozens and dozens of gangster, politicians, entertainers and other entrepreneurs. I was genuinely impressed by the intelligence and insight of both men. They both are strategic in thought and serious about their business. At the time of my interviews, they were also the BEST of friends. They appeared to be inseparable. I asked both men what bonded them. Floyd said they had a strong bond because they both experienced the same types of things in life, and this is what 50 Cent had to say:
Don Diva: What binds the two (Floyd Mayweather and 50 Cent) of you?
50: When you have a friend that you are assured doesn’t need anything from you it creates clarity for what it is actually about. Floyd will pull me back and tell me, “No, 50 don’t say nothing to this dude or that dude.” He’ll tell me to ignore certain things. See, in this business they will take someone who is not even relevant and promote him until the public feels like he means something. People will always try to figure out a way to make us look less than we are. Floyd’s a friend that doesn’t need anything from me. He bought me a$75,000 watch. Why? Because he felt like it. While he was in the spot he initially wanted it for himself, but he looked at it again and said, “I have all this shit… I will get it for 50.” When he gave it to me, I was like, “Oh shit, this is nice.” He knew I could have went and bought the same watch that day. I have four American Express Black cards in my wallet. That means I have different companies that I spend over $150,000… Each card has no limit. So I can buy whatever I want. So when he does this… I can’t even jump out there and buy him something in return because then it just looks like I am giving it right back. At Christmas time I’ll find him things that he doesn’t have. A lot of times I have to be creative and make a car that doesn’t exist… A prototype.
We really can’t be sure what happened between these two that caused once close friends to appear to be mortal enemies. A very wise man (KEVIN CHILES) told me that familiarity breeds contempt. When people get close to you and they find out your weaknesses they will exploit them to their advantages. 50 Cent is a student of the 48 Laws of Power and he plays the game well!
