If you reach any level of success, the wolves will definitely be on you. Maybe, a gangster or thuggish individual may even try to straight up extort you. That’s what Indian director Ali Morani is experiencing now. He is a player on the Bollywood scene producing films with his brother, Karim. The brothers also own a few event management companies. Local crime boss Ravi Pujari sees their success and wants his cut.

According to DNAIndia, Pujari started demanding money of Morani starting in July, causing the director to go to “the Anti-Extortion Cell of the crime branch,” to complain about the gangster. Things turned up this Saturday night after an extortion call from Pujari went unanswered by Morani who was in “the baller’s capitol” of Dubai. Allegedly, in response, Pujari sent three strapped bikers to Morani’s home in Juhu. A police officer described, “The bike that came from Juhu circle direction sped towards Juhu police station area. Two security guards were on duty at that time. Atleast three rounds were fired from one of the assailants which hit the trunk of a tree, glass pane of the building and the bonnet of a BMW car parked inside the building.”

After the shooting, Pujari allegedly messaged Morani’s daughter telling her what happened and delivering more threats. Morani’s brother/partner, Karim brought the case to Juhu police on Sunday morning.

Clearly, India and America differ greatly as far as culture is concerned, but it’s clear that Morani is talking to the police in detail. Such things are frowned upon by goons in America and it’s probably safe to say Pujari doesn’t appreciate that. For the time being, Pujari is attacking Morani’s livelihood. DNA reports that police are aware of the gangster’s reaching out to actor, Shah Rukh Khan at his production house, Red Chillies. He told the actor (currently shooting a film) to steer clear of Morani and his events altogether, due to the director’s close ties to “other underworld dons.” Shah Rukh and police are taking the call as a threat.

Law enforcement has taken extra precautions to protect both affluent men safe from the gangster“We received a call from the actor’s office about the threat call. We have enhanced security outside his house, and beefed up security at Morani’s house as well,” said Commissioner Milind Bharambe.
