Perhaps  flash flooding in New York City was Mother Nature’s hidden ray of sunshine for Number 3, Roger Federer.

Fifteen minutes into Federer’s match with Mareck Grannollers, Granollers claimed the first 10 points of the match to open up a 4-1 lead.

Then, it rained!

The rainy weather conditions at Arthur Ashe Stadium in Queens, caused the USTA to cancel the day session schedule of today’s U.S. Open. After a two-hour rain delay, Federer stormed back in his match. Federer overcame his slow start and routed Marcel Granollers was dispatched 4-6 6-1 6-1 6-1 in the third round. Federer was glad to have braved the elements to pull out a win. “The break helped me,” Federer said after his match.

“And I came out and played some great tennis.”
