On this day, back in 2009, rapper Max B–real name Charly Wingate–was sentenced to 75 years in prison for his role in planning the armed robbery and kidnapping that led to the murder of David Taylor.

According to authorities, previously, in 2006, Max B sent his ex-girlfriend, exotic dancer Gina Conway, and her stepbrother, Kelvin Leerdam, to a Holiday Inn to rob two men in Fort Lee, New Jersey.

After restraining one of the men, Allen “Jay” Plowden, Conway and Leerdam shot Plowden’s partner, David Taylor, when he showed up to the ‘telly. Plowden survived the attack, and a week later, Max B was picked up for the murder and charged with conspiracy to commit armed robbery, kidnapping, aggravated assault, and murder. He was later found guilty, after a lengthy trial in which Gina Conway testified that he was the brains behind the operation, although he didn’t receive any of the ill-gotten gains.

Max B has continually asserted his innocence–and continued to put out music–since his conviction. A judge denied his appeal on August 30, 2012, leaving the rapper to serve the remainder of his 75 year bid in a New Jersey prison. If made to serve his sentence in its entirety, his earliest release date would be November 9, 2042.

However, earlier this year, Amalgam Digital CEO Anyextee said that Max B could be a free man within the next two years, by 2016.

“I just did a deal for the film I have coming out entitled Charly Rambo: The Max B Story, and you can expect to hear exclusive Max B tracks in the movie,” Anyextee said. “I will also say this, there are still quality unreleased Max B tracks and Pro Tools sessions. However, we recently sold Max B’s catalog as part of a play to help get him out. He and his family were excited about this as the company we sold it to has agreed to put up the required capital to fund a proper legal defense using the defense attorneys that we always wanted to use. It’s possible Charly could be out as soon as two years if the legal team is successful in their strategy. He already has time served under his belt.”
