With Source 360 just weeks away, it’s only right we pay homage to one of the culture’s originators
Any basketball, Hip-Hop or more importantly sneaker enthusiast would recognize the contributions Bobbito Garcia did for each of these different cultures throughout the years. Kool Bob Love was an architect in the hip hop industry, a brilliant basketball enthusiast that made you love the game and most of all a mastermind when designing and collaborating with your favorite sneaker brands. His sneaker influence goes well and beyond the court and inspires us to go out and create platforms for our passions because anything is possible. Recognized for his significance in the sub-culture, Bobbito’s sneaker collabs were always known to break a couple necks here and there.
In the midst of the cultural celebration Source360 making its way to Brooklyn, Bobbito Garcia will be leading the Source 360 Sneaker Summit and what better way to prepare for this grand time then to count down his most memorable sneaker collabs. 4. Air Force One x Bobbito Low
Released: 2007
Implementing all his loves into this shoe, Bobbito was always a man about the flare and personal aesthetics that tell the story to his kicks. Found on the heel of his shoe is his personal logo which shows a hand over a ball which signifies dribbling a ball or a DJ spinning records. Found on the back heels of the shoes reveal the word “Love”, in which the letter “O” in the word is replaced with a picture of a basketball and a DJ record.
3. Bobbito Garcia x Pro-Keds
Released: 2009
Taking a break from his usual collab partner Nike, Bobbito took a step into the new realm of Pro-Keds and managed to influence the trendsetters with this new piece. The “Royal Flash” was a shoe dedicated to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the shoes. The shoe feature the name “Bobbito” on the side of the shoe and “El Barrio NYC” on the tongue of the kicks.
2. Bobbito Garcia x Air Force Hi (Doin’ It In The Park Edition)
Released: 2013
To commemorate his streetball documentary “ Doin’ It In The Park” the O.G Kool Bob Love hooked up with the homies over at Nike to once again put his spin on a classic shoe. On the outside heel of the shoe you can find the title of the documentary laser etched into the shoe, whereas on the inside heel you can find the symbol used in the Filipino flag etched to perfection on the side of the shoe.
1. Bobbito Garcia x Air Force 1 Hi
Released: 2007
Holy Grails. Pretty much the phrase that is summed up to describe these ill shoes. Released back in 2007, these four kicks related to his upbringing and culture but more importantely the essence of what makes this guy special. The “Wheat” and “Beef ‘N’ Broccoli” colorways reminisces Timberland boots that were made a staple in New York City whereas, the blue and red Hi’s colorways relate to his roots tracing back to Puerto Rico in which those colors are found on the country’s national flag.
