The event went well as DJ Bam Bam rocked a packed house of parents and students who were waiting for instructions.  Principal Finn opened up by talking about the unique partnership PS/MS 42 has with the Hip-Hop Summit Youth Council.  She then introduced Randy and Charles Fisher to the audience.  They spoke to those in attendance about the 7 E’s 4 Power Tour and how it would be used to improve graduation rates, provide job opportunities, and reduce Gun & Gang Violence.

After enlightening the audience about the project 50 hot Hip-Hop Books representing the student’s favorite stars such as Jay Z, Beyonce, Chris Brown, Will Smith, 50 Cent, Usher, Kanye West, Ice Cube, Eminem, Mary J Blige, Alicia Keys, Pit Bull, Lil’ Wayne and a host of others were raffled off.  The Books were created to promote the importance of education and motivate students to read, which is an essential tool for success.  Winners of the raffle will have another chance to be a winner by taking part in the “Life of a Celebrity” Essay Contest.  All they have to do is write a one-page essay on the book they won.  The winner will receive $100 and tickets to an upcoming concert.

Two winners of the contest won the book “Display of Power” by “The Shark” Daymond John.  They will also get a chance to have a private meeting with him during the school year to discuss financial literacy and how to start their own business.  It is important that we teach students how to manage their money and become financially independent at a young age.  Who better to perform this invaluable service for our students than Daymond John?

After the book raffle Charles introduced the man responsible for making all this happen, “The Shark” Daymond John.  He spoke to the students about the importance of education, higher education and graduation.  Daymond introduced our second special guest, Eddie Sitt, Liaison Specialist for Longstreet, whose company donated the uniforms to the students.  Eddie told the audience how excited he was about having the opportunity to help the students prepare for their educational journey by making sure they had the proper uniforms to attend school.  He thanked Daymond for all his support as he explained to the parents what they had to do to get their uniforms.  To add some spice to the event 5 students were selected to perform a mini fashion show that gave the students and parents a sneak preview of what they would receive.  At the end of the day everyone left excited and prepared for the challenges they would be confronted with for the upcoming school year.

“It gives me great joy to be a part of an initiative that provides students with Backpacks, Books and uniforms they can wear with pride during the school year.  As you well know the fashion industry is where it all started for me through FUBU so I know when you look good, you also feel good.  It is my hope that they will use the same feel good energy that inspired me towards success to leap the hurdles they will face as they strive for academic success,” ended “The Shark” Daymond John, Star of the ABC hit TV show “Shark Tank” and Founder of FUBU.

“We at Longstreet/Gazzbox.com are honored to participate with the school and Shark Branding in helping the kids get ready to learn and face the challenges of the upcoming school year,” stated Keith Dale, Executive VP of Sales and Merchandising.

“The 7 E’s 4 Power Tour is supported by our Hip-Hop Against Gun & Gang Violence Project and continues to work with schools and community groups to empower students and prepare them for success.  There is nothing more important than Public Safety and education and our 7 E’s, which consist of Education; Employment; Entrepreneurship; Economics; Entertainment; Equality; and Empowerment will be used as a guide to help students and parents achieve their educational goals.  Through our School & Community Center Adoption Program (S-CCAP) we will be able to bring more resources to Public Schools because if it takes an entire village to raise a child we all must play a role towards helping those living in poor and disadvantaged communities.  For that I want to truly thank Daymond John and Longstreet for their vision and commitment to help this post Hurricane Sandy Community return to a normal life,” ended Charles Fisher, Founder, HHSYC.

Stated Randy Fisher, executive director, HHSYC “Arming our students with the resources, skills and education they need to succeed is a priority for us and we will continue to reach out to individuals like our board member Daymond John to support our mission.  We can’t ask students to do their part if we are not doing ours.  This is going to be a great academic year because we will be involved with many schools from start to finish thanks to Power 105.1 and a host of new initiatives including a unique “Anti-Bullying” project that we have developed over the summer that will cut bullying down by up to 50% in participating schools.  I want to thank DJ Bam Bam, Power 105.1, the Source Magazine, metroPCS, Microsoft, Elvira Guzman and all the other sponsors for their continued support.  I want to also commend Principal Finn for going the extra mile for her students, as well as PA President Kevin Brown, Title 1 Coordinator Ms. Lynn, and NYS Parent Advocate Queen Makkada.  I know with their continued support the 2014-15 school year will be a big success.

“I want to thank Charles and Randy Fisher, as well as Daymond John and Longstreet for thinking about our school and helping us grow.  In order for us to succeed we need strong partners who understand the importance of education and giving back to the community.  This event is an example of what can happen when we put our heads together and work as a team to provide students with the clothing, motivation and resources they will need to attend school this fall,” stated Principal Finn of PS/MS 42.
