What is it with the NBA?

Danny Ferry, the GM of the Atlanta Hawks, was caught making some racist remarks about free agent prospect Luol Deng, and now the audio has leaked. Ferry, who decided to use the “I was reading a scouting report” defense when he was outed by a source reporting to Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski, can be heard saying the following on a conference call regarding potential Hawks’ signees.

“He’s still a young guy overall. He’s a good guy overall. But he’s not perfect. He’s got some African in him. And I don’t mean that in a bad way.”

Well, in what way did you mean it Danny? Either way, it doesn’t qualify any of the qualities that one would need to qualify to determine whether a free agent would be of good service to the team, so we’re a bit confused here. In case you  missed it, over the weekend, the owner of the Atlanta Hawks, Dan Levenson, willingly revealed his racist tendencies to NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, and announced that because of the self-loathing he’d been engaging in since sending racist e-mails to members of the Hawks organization in 2012, he would be selling the team. Levenson appeared to be acting in good faith, in light of the NBA cracking down on high-ranking NBA officials with loose mouths–which is putting it lightly. However, this now doesn’t appear to be an isolated incident, and it would behoove Silver to step in now and see what’s really going on in A-Town.
