More than 45 people have been arrested in the town of Galveston, Texas. The first 12 arrested in this case were children, 11-16, who represent the Omega Organized Criminal Street Gang. This gang is a branch off of the infamous Crips. These 12 youth members were said to be engaging in criminal activity, aggravated robbery, burglary of a motor vehicle, narcotics possession, outstanding warrants and probation violations.
The Galveston Police Chief, Henry Porretto, put together a task force made up of one sergeant and five officers. Within the first week of their investigation they were able to arrest 15 members. With further investigation, the police force was able to arrest 30 people on possession of cocaine, powder and crack cocaine, along with illegal prescription pills and marijuana.
It is to be said that may of these children’s parents are also felons and members of the gang. They involved the children because sentencing them in a juvenile court system would give them less jail time, if any. Since the hight of this growing gang, the city of Galveston has seen an extreme rise in methamphetamine and made four cases involving narcotics with arrests made for possessing and manufacturing as well as delivering.
