According to ESPN.com, former Baltimore Ravens runningback Ray Rice will appeal his suspension by the NFL.

Rice was cut by the Baltimore Ravens last week after TMZ Sports released a video showing Rice and his then-fiancée, Janay Palmer entering an Atlantic City, NJ casino elevator. While occupying the elevator, Rice punches Palmer. Palmer lunges after Rice, and then Rice hits her again and she falls to the floor. Rice then drags his unconscious fiancée out of the elevator.

Hours after the Ravens cut Rice, the NFL suspended the Pro-Bowl runningback indefinitely.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell originally issued Rice a suspension without pay and a fine for conduct detrimental to the NFL. After the video footage was released by TMZ, however, not only was Rice released by the Ravens, but he will will not be able to sign with another team for at least a year.

Rice has until 11:59 p.m. Tuesday –three days after the NFL notified the players union of the suspension—to file his appeal. Rice, 27, had three years and $10 million remaining on the five-year, $35-million contract he signed with Baltimore in 2012.
