YT! is an ultra-tatted artist from Sauga City (known otherwise for being PARTYNEXTDOOR‘s hood) whose style is probably too intense for the faint of heart on and off the set. “Hit Em” produced by Toronto beatsmith Tall Boy was YT!’s summer turn-up banger that premiered randomly on WSHH and spread pretty effectively in downtown and in the suburbs thanks to an anthem of a hook and a strong music video courtesy of Zac Facts. Is the self-proclaimed “Turn Up God” Toronto’s version of MIGOS as he’s often referred to? The jury is still out on that but what’s certain is the level of energy in “Hit Em”: unquestionable craziness.
For those who are still trying to find out about you, how would you describe yourself?
I’m a young tatted “Turn Up God” from the North. I keep it real and keep it trill. I love to turn the f*ck up. I’ve stayed focused on my long and short term goals. I just want to succeed in life and make it my duty to produce the hottest music ever.
You have opened for some big names.
Yeah, I opened for Meek Mill at Kool Haus last December. Dope experience. Just recently opened for A$AP Rocky and The Mob At Echo Beach.
You have lots of stage presence. I saw you do a standing front flip at a Meek Mill concert once. Is that something that comes naturally to you?
Performing is so natural for me. Once i’m on stage something else takes over for me! That’s the “Turn Up God”
Which part of Mississauga are you from?
Mississauga Valley Blvd between 5 & 10 and Square One. It’s my complex. It’s where I learned some lessons.
Growing up there what was it like for you? also in terms of Hip-Hop influences.
I got beat up, older kids used to rob my shoes when I walked from school. Seen a lot of violence. Musically I never got the chance to go out and take in artists but my dad is a DJ and I grew up listening to Reggae and Dance-hall.
What is your affiliation with DNTFCKRND?
I am one of the first artists to push the brand DNTFCKRND and now it’s catching fire everywhere I go. DNTFCKRND is my family along with Top Cat & Life Gang.
What can your fans expect from your music in the future?
Sit back and be amazed. They’re not ready for all the crazy music that’s coming their way.
Any project in the works?
Right now I just have lots of big singles to come. An album can be made with the snap of a finger so projects can come at any time. Outside of music, I have a capsule collection i’m doing with DNTFCKRND later in the year.
What in your opinion are the things an artist needs to be truly successfull?
The thing that seperates the stars from the industry fellas. Drive, Dedication and Hunger. Like how bad do you want it? The universe gives you what you ask of it.
How would you describe the Hip-Hop scene in Toronto right now compared to how it has been in the past?
The music scene is booming, thanks to the big homie Drake. He opened the way for young niggas like me to come in and get what’s mine.
5 Goals in 2015?
Travel the world.
Continue loving my fans.
Make the dopest music.
Stay true to myself.
Be a pretty ass motherf*cker!
