Australian Federal Police have charged two men with consipary to commit acts of terrorism and claim to have prevented a potential terrorist attack. The charges come a week after Australian authorities raised their terror threat level to high for the first time in twelve years.

Early this morning at least one person has been arrested and charged with terrorism offenses and fourteen others have been detained as police conducted two dozen searches in Sydney.  The searches came after authorities obtained information about a potential public execution. The alleged assialiants planned to kidnap and behead a victim, then drape him/her in the ISIS ( Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) flag. The names of those in custody and other details  regarding the threat haven’t been disclosed by authorities due to ongoing investigation. Prime Minister of Australia Toby Abbot stated: “The exhortations, quite direct exhortations, were coming from an Australian who is apparently quite senior in ISIL (Islamic State) to networks of support back in Australia to conduct demonstration killings here in this country”

According to Australian officials, the country’s terror threat level has been building this year due to an increase in Australian Jihadists fighting for ISIS in the Middle East then returing to Australia. The United States,  has yet to raise it’s terror alert, however many news publications and government officials have indicated that ISIS could become a potential threat.
