We clearly live in a microwave era. We are moving 1000 miles and hour. Some of us are just busy doing nothing- but we are still busy non-the-less. Seems like we don’t even want to take time to mourn people anymore. A Michigan funeral home has introduced a new form of paying your respects- The Drive-Thru Window. The window is actually a sheet of bulletproof glass covered by curtains connected to a motion sensor. When you pull up the curtains will open. The concept was introduced in various funeral homes across the country in an attempt to reduce gang violence at funerals in neighborhoods with particularly high gang activity. Why else would a funeral home window need to be bulletproof. After all, whoever is in the coffin is already dead.
At the The Paradise Funeral Chapel in Michigan you get three minutes to sign the guestbook, drop a sympathy card in a drop box and pay your respects. The funeral home says they got the idea after working with an elderly woman who was in a wheel chair. When her husband passed away, she was too sick to move well enough to attend his funeral.
The drive-thru window doesn’t seem like a bad idea when you think about all the drama that can happen at funerals. Side chicks can now pay their respects without getting their ass kicked by the deceased’s family (lol). Then you have the people who really don’t like funeral homes like myself. However, I don’t really believe I would use the drive-thru for a loved one. It seems a little disrespectful not to take the time to get out of your car to pay your respects; but, what do I know?
