Known as the bad boy of the fashion industry, Rick Owens maintained his reputation this season with ethereal out-of-the-box pieces. The entire venue was designed so there was only one row and every guest had a front row experience. Everyone from Kanye West to Bill Cunningham was there.
By selecting the Théâtre national de chaillot at place du Trocadéro, Rick Owens had a massive space with the best view of the Eiffel Tower.
Not only were the guests in aww of the view from the venue, but the whole crowd was mesmerized at these otherworldly creatures that were wondering in our world.
The clothes seemed to be floating on the models bodies wonderfully, until you looked down to the rustic clocks that the models were wearing. They were very chunky leather heels with thick wooden soles that made a sound similar to tap meets step dancing. One of the models said that the clocks were so beautiful and different.
Some of pieces were sheer robes with structured lining. It is definitely not clothes for the average joe, but for the people that are meant to stand out and embrace their uniqueness.
The final touch was the music. It transported us into another dimension. Rick Owens is truly a master of unconventional clothing and turning it into delicate works of wearable art.
The Source Magazine spoke with Melissa Gibson, Senior Artist for MAC Cosmetics backstage exclusively.
There are a couple of different things going on. The first is very much a feeling that Rick Owens always has, which is a very paired down blank look to the face without necessarily paling out the skin completely it is almost like evening out the skin with the palest color of your face. It dims everything. It is an ever so slight bit of high light with the Pearl and Luna Cream Color base. It gets dabbed on the lid and on the temple.
Then we got these eight girls that have been, they are not statues but they are versions of white with a little bit of lavender tint to it or blue and then a pure white. And then you are going to see this on the opposite scale, completely surreal, and yeah they look flawless it is kind of if you could imagine taking works of art without necessarily one particular reference. It is like if you take sidewalk chalk that children play with and put it all over your body. It is the extreme of chalk. With his clothing it turns into something that is of course super fabulous to watch.
Skin: Perfected skin using match master foundation where needed. Use a lighter shade in center of face to create a beautiful pale look. Powder T zone and apply pearl CCB and Luna CCB on cheek highlight.
Eyes: Apply Pearl + Luna CCB on eyelid to highlight very sheer application using brush 224. Brush brows with clear browset and take concealer and brush through brows to soften natural color core lashes.
Lips: Apply concealer with finger to cancel out color then press midtone nude lipmix on lips. “Brutalist, artifice, afternoon at the forum” Rick Owens, Lucia Pieroni.
Face + Body: Covered completely with either Pure White Airbrush makeup and drops of black airbrush or Pure White with a few drops of Marine Ultra DR. Pure white with a few drops of Rich Purple. Applied by buffing on with brush 187.
