Police Chief Tom Jackson apologizes for his force’s strong arm tactics during protests; Ferguson community isn’t buying it
After issuing a statement of apology to the people of Ferguson who protested the death of unarmed 18 year old Michael Brown, Police Chief Tom Jackson attempted the join the protest march Thursday night outside of the police station, but the community called for his resignation.
The Jackson-led Ferguson PD used ultra-aggressive tactics in attempting to quell the protests after Michael Brown was shot and killed by Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson. The now historic “Ferguson Riots” became a standoff between Ferguson PD’s white officers and the black protesters from Ferguson.
So when the Chief tried to show his allegiance with the people on Thursday night, many of those present jeered and called for Jackson’s two week notice.
Residents are livid over the length of tine Brown’s body was left on Canfield Drive in Canfield Green Apartments, the bullying of peaceful protesters and media. Also, many residents are still in awe of Jackson’s calculated move to release a shoplifting video of Brown while revealing Darren Wilson’s identity after a week of concealing it.
Jackson’s apology comes on the same day as Attorney General Eric Holder’s resignation announcement, who is currently engulfed in two separate civil rights investigations.
