Remember Mario Kart for the Nintendo 64 gaming system?
Fans of the game will surely get a blast from the past after an announced partnership between video game developer goodXgames Inc. and The Solar Games during the Clinton Global Initiative summit in Manhattan last week.
A fast paced, 3D, third-person game, based on locations, music and social media, The Solar Games is available for beta access and via mobile IOS. The Solar Games brings an approach to solving the energy crisis in Haiti and eventually Africa, India and Asia by allowing the music, entertainment industry and global influencers the ability to brand into a game while helping the poorest communities in the world with the most suffering.
goodXgames, the games developer, will give 50% of their profits of The Solar Games to microfinance, education and job training programs for communities without electricity access.
The game is the first commitment of its kind because it’s the first video game studio member of the Clinton Global Initiative. “The next generation of tastemakers, music listeners and gamers can be part of the solution to the world’s biggest problems,” said Bradley Bulifant, Executive Producer of The Solar Games.
“There are kids in poor countries who have never played a game ever before because they do not have electricity. Imagine helping poor children have the ability to play a video game that even teaches them solutions to their community’s biggest problems while playing The Solar Games.”
One of the partners in the project is Leilani Munter, a biology graduate turned race car driver and environmental activist who is a global leader fighting against injustices against the environment.
Other partners announced were Earthspark International, Grooveshark and Ideas For US. The partnering companies will work together to integrate marketing and promotional strategies in order to foster a meaningful viral engagement between players of The Solar Games, while engaging social streaming powered by Grooveshark.
