Touching on the ‘hair epidemic’ Journalist Courtney Brown delves into the hair industry and the petition against Blue Ivy‘s hair. Hair enhancement guru, V. Phillip Baker, CEO of E.R.E.N.A. Hair Center is featured in the story and shares his experience as NYC”s top hair manufacturing company.
According to Baker, he’s grown accustomed to seeing women struggle with their hair. He admits Blue Ivy’s hair texture is actually one of his top sellers.
Check out Baker’s extra excerpts from ‘Hair To The Throne’:
I grew up seeing the women in my family always putting chemicals in their hair, trying to achieve a softer texture, always trying to extend their hair, purchasing hair and removing it in two weeks. Staying in the salon a long time, And of course hair all over the sink.”
“We have many popular textures but it’s difficult to say what’s most popular. This week, Afro Kinky might be a hot seller, Next week, natural curl maybe the hot seller. The following week, Spanish wavy, soft wavy or straight will sell out and I can’t have enough of it. I would say all of them are hot sellers, it just depends on the time. Right now women are going back to the natural style so we have a very long stretch of Afro kinky where we are selling thirty to forty pounds a week.”
“Working in the hair industry is very challenging and one of the most difficulties that I face is being black in the business. You have to give two or three hundred percent in comparison to Asians. My goal is to make sure customers get full usage of the hair, no tangling or shedding…not only that they can get the proper texture.”
