Killer Mike and El-P are runnin’ jewels with kitties plain colored and calico.

Run The Jewels, the hip-hop duo consisting of Atlanta MC Killer Mike and Brooklyn MC/producer El-P, are releasing their second full-length album “RTJ2″ at the end of the month on October 27th via Mass Appeal Records, but that’s not the reason why many fans were celebrating yesterday. A remix album called “Meow The Jewels” was successfully funded on Kickstarter yesterday afternoon, breaking its funding goal of $45,100 with 12 days to go.

Back in September, Run The Jewels made pre-orders for their album available on the heels of their second single “Oh My Darling Don’t Cry.” Most of them run the gamut of basic packages (CD, 2X LP, T-shirt, 4X LP, etc.), but the rest were just plain ridiculous, ranging from all access backstage passes to up to 10 live shows to paying Mike and El to retire and produce music just for you. For $40,000, they offered a package entitled “Meow The Jewels,” a remix of RTJ2 with nothing but cat noises. A Kickstarter for the project was created quickly by fan Sly Jones, with full support from El-P, who will be donating his half of the money raised to a charity benefitting the families of victims of police brutality Michael Brown and Eric Garner.

MTJ now features a murderer’s row of guest producers including Just Blaze, The Alchemist, BOOTS, Zola Jesus, Skywlkr, Dan The Automator, and Prince Paul, among others. Pledge rewards for “Meow The Jewels” include a download of the album, stickers, an exclusive t-shirt, the chance to have your cat’s noises featured on the album, and a super limited edition MTJ vinyl pressing signed by both Mike and El.

If hard-hitting hip-hop, great causes, and cats are your thing, there’s still time to donate to MTJ. Total stands at $55,365. Funding closes on Tuesday, October 28th. Check out the trailer created by Hectah below!
