On October 21 Rakuten.com a Japanese electronic commerce and Internet company based in Tokyo, Japan held their launch for Rakuten Fashion in the heart of NYC’s meatpacking district at Owen.

The event had New York based Director, Filmmaker, and DJ Vashite Kola on the turn tables and featured a special performance by Judith Hill. The guest list included familiar faces like designer Angela Simmons and co-founder of the Beautified app Hannah Bronfman. The event was held at Owen where clothing items that will soon be available on Rakuten.com were on display. Guests enjoyed cocktails as they mingled and browsed throughout the night. Rakuten.com plans to broaden their website by expanding their fashion department. The marketing department has recreated their site design and decided to add high end pieces at more affordable price to make it more accessuble for customers. The website will also have casual clothing for everyday wear. With support from well known brands and designers, Rakuten will take over the internet one closet at a time.
