Lupe’s joining the party.
Eventually, a hip-hop historian will have to go back and look at 2013, and its worth pointing out he (or she, for that matter) will have an easier time examining rappers that didn’t release (or plan to release) an album this year rather than tally the ones who did. Lupe Fiasco, who hasn’t been heard from much this year–his shining-est moment might be his showstopping verse on MMG’s Self Made 3 single “Poor Decisions”–has been consistent about one thing: his second album in as many years, Tetsuo & Youth, will be released during the 4th quarter of this year. It serves as a follow-up to his last effort, the Grammy-nominated Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album Pt. 1. and a pre-cursor to the heavily politically influenced persona Fiasco has represented over the past couple years. The Chicago rapper has never been more outspoken on this many social platforms, from anti-Obama rallies to protests regarding the massive closing of schools in his hometown. While F&L2 exhibited an array of the rapper’s views, we can only imagine he’ll only up the ante with every album. Watch out for the new single, “Old School Love”, featuring Ed Sheeran, which will be out on iTunes October 14th. Lupe’s new album, Tetsuo & Youth, will hopefully be out by the end of the year.
