I’ve always preferred a live band, in addition to a DJ, backing an emcee. Always. But when you include a full symphonic orchestra and a producer who was born to arrange great music for one, it doesn’t get any better. French producer, Wax Tailor, set out to create a live album that recorded four live shows in Europe from May 2014. He picked songs from his four albums to deliver unparalleled live shows with the 35 musician and 20 person choir of the Orchestra of the Lille Conservatory. The album, titled Phonovisions Symphonic Orchestra, marks Tailor’s 10th anniversary of the start of his career but I have a feeling he did this more to celebrate musical innovation.
Today, we’re proud to premiere the video recording of the live performance of “B-Boy On Wax.” It features MC Mattic, Flutist Marine Thibaut, and Wax Tailor on the turntables. Shows like this certainly provide a perfect situation to explain how it’s bigger than Hip-Hop.
Phonovisions Symphonic Orchestra will be released on November 4th. You can pre-order a copy HERE. And Wax Tailor will be touring with a film of the live shows as well as performing a DJ set afterwards. The dates for those shows are below. You can get an inside peek at the other songs from the European tour at the bottom.
November 4th – Los Angeles – Bootleg Theatre
November 5th – San Francisco – Rickshaw Theatre
November 6th – Seattle – Nectar Lounge
November 7th – New York – Knitting Factory
Bryan Hahn would put on a suit and tie to go to this show. He’s on Twitter (@notupstate).
