Detroit is surpassing its harsh reputation of socioeconomic struggles and is reinventing itself as the “Mecca” of Music. Originally, nicknamed “Motown” and the “Home of Soul”, a new wave of hip hop/rap artists from Eminem, Royce Da 5’9, Dej Loaf, Detroit Che and Big Sean has the Detroit hip hop scene making noise, and now Detroit is the host of a new conference to help other artists gain exposure into the music industry.

The LSTN4 Music Conference is targeted to unsigned artists, songwriters, producers and independent labels within the Midwest. LSTN4 brings a new innovative approach to providing emerging talent the opportunity to make major career changing moves within their hometown. The conference is giving attendees the chance to get signed by major labels, a chance to win $50,000, an opportunity to work with platinum selling producers and a chance to record with Def Jam’s artist, Lil Durk.

Many will argue if such event is effective in bringing exposure to indie talent. But the LSTN4 co-founders, Derrick Scott and Mark Russ, are passionate about creating new opportunities for the Midwest; an often overlooked region for rap talent.

“We wanted to bring the music opportunities back to our home town and shed some light on the talent that often goes unnoticed. Ideally, we want LSTN4 to become a premier platform for artists who are blessed with musical talents but are not afforded the opportunity to be heard on a national level,” said the founders.

“Major labels are being forced to evolve. They still can be the industry workhorse behind an artist but with the emergence of social media, digital distribution and independent touring, artists have taken back a good chunk of control within the industry and this creates a huge opportunity for artists to usher in a regime,” says Scott.
