Here’s how not to decorate your home for Halloween…

Apparently an active-duty soldier at Fort Campbell in Kentucky displayed what has been considered as a “lynching” scene at his home. There were two adult-sized figures hanging from a branch and a smaller child-like figure tied to the trunk. The second child-sized figure was place on the ground holding onto one of the adult’s ankles. Complaints were made immediately, some claiming the display depicted an African-American family. The story was originally reported by ClarksvilleNow.com who reported that the soldier willingly took down the display once base officials reached out to him. The homeowner, whose name has not been released has apologized for the “impression left by the decorations.” Brendalyn Carpenter with Public Affairs told ClarksvilleNow.com:

“Displays of an offensive nature are not reflective of Army values and the family-friendly environment provided for employees and residents of the Fort Campbell community.”

According to Army Times there was “no discussion with investigators of the particular theme.”
