Dr. Maya Angelou Honored By The Michael Jackson Tribute PortraitMaya Angelou is back in the news, and with her storied legacy, there are certainly no complaints about her presence.  Her most renown autobiography is the literary landmark I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, and akin to writing so eloquently about her otherwise brutal young adulthood, peppered with wistful memories, her newest memoir Mom & Me & Mom arrives the week of Mother’s Day.  This time around, Angelou specifically discusses the relationship between her, her mother Vivian Baxter and grandmother Annie Henderson.

The author and orator, now Dr. Maya Angelou, was raised by her grandmother until the age of 13, and lived with her mother by 14, and is currently sharing how she came to terms in forgiving her mother who was a capricious individual with had a hidden heart of gold.  She’s opened up to Oprah and CBS on separate interviews about her family matters and the harrowing experience she had with an ex-boyfriend that held her captive at one point.  Mom & Me & Mom is also an aspiring recollection of over-powering emotional, mental and physical abuse.  At 85 years of age, Angelou’s words are nothing short of sage.

Watch the clip of the icon from the OWN network and look out for the part two of her special with May 19th at 11AM.  Also head over to CBS News’ Face the Nation online to watch her interview at: http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=50146667n
