“I been Steph Curry with the shot.” ~Drake, “0-100/ The Catch Up.”
Last night, Steph Curry was Steph Curry. Thanks to Drake, “sports and music are so synonymous.” Because of this, there’s no questioning that references to former and current players catch ears. Whether it be Jay Z‘s “take your pick: Jackson, Tyson, Jordan: Game 6,” Drake’s “you make friends with Mike but got to A.I. him for your survival,” or even back to Roxanne Shante‘s “I’m an all-star, just like Julius Erving/ And Roxanne Shante is only good for steady serving,” there’s nothing like the dominance of an athlete to add visual effect to lyrics.
“Shout out Steph Curry, on the court pushing thirty.” ~Lil B, “Hoop Life.”
That being said, it’s a must that we highlight one of the NBA’s newest superstars; Stephen Curry. Ironically, he’s one of 2014′s most referenced athletes (in a positive tone, at least). Recently named the NBA’s player of the week on November 10th, he averaged league-highs of 30.0 Points, 4.7 Three-Pointers and 3.33 Steals in Three Games. Just last night against Kobe Bryant – who scored 44 Points – and the Lakers, Curry lived up to almost every lyric he’s been mentioned in as he dropped 30 Points and dished out 15 Dimes.
“You never seen nothing like this, Splash Brothers with the aim…” ~Manolo on Troy Ave’s “All About The Money.”
