Raised in New Jersey by an African-American mother and Caucasian step-father. Of note, he’s going forward as being known by his natural born name of Brett Goodette. He went through a discovery process after not meeting his biological father until adulthood. Although he always knew his biological father was Jewish, it was not until after a chance discovery and follow up meeting with his biological father that Brett decided to follow his long held desire to learn more about his Jewish background.

This led him to Israel, where he lived for years, worked, studied the religion, acclimated to the culture and broadened his understanding of the diversity embodied by him. The name JewAli came about much earlier when a group of Muslims he knew and hung around with in his youth learned of his Jewish background and began calling him JewAli and it stuck. It represents his desire to be and serve as a bridge that brings people from diverse backgrounds together through the common language of music.
