No officers or paramedics will be indicted by a grand jury for the death of an unarmed Staten Island father

Less than two weeks after Darren Wilson was cleared of any criminal misconduct by a Ferguson, Missouri grand jury, it was revealed today that no one will be charged in the choking death of 43 year old Eric Garner in Staten Island, NY.

Daniel Pantaleo gave his testimony to a grand jury impaneled by District Attorney Daniel M. Donovan Jr., who all saw the video of Mr. Garner’s tragic death and arrest, as he was handcuffed even after he was motionless.

The duty of a grand jury is to decide whether or not there is enough evidence for a criminal trial. The grand juries meet in secret and are under full instruction of the prosecutors and only hear evidence from them. In order to reach these “verdicts”, a decision must be unanimous.

After the Ferguson grand Jury decision, NYC has been preparing for more protests similar to what was faced in Missouri.

Officer Pantaleo is still on the force, but ironically faces potential termination and has been stripped of his gun and badge.
