“Freedom for the wolves has often meant death to the sheep.” ~ I. Berlin

Following protests over the unjust killings of numerous unarmed black men including Mike Brown, Eric Garner, and (too) many more across the nation at the hands of those meant to protect them; police officers; the Yale College Black Men’s union added more thought to the ordeal.

“As we try to find words to comfort you during this time, we know that, unfortunately, nothing we say can speak perfectly to how you must feel,” stated the Ivy league Union to the parents of Mike Brown by way of their Tumblr account. “Nonetheless, we want to express our deepest sympathies for the loss of your son,” adding that “over the course of several months, the world has watched the story of your son’s death unfold for all to see.”

“Throughout this time, the two of you have stood tall as you carried the burden of both losing your son and watching the world cast judgements upon his character — often untrue.”

With that being said, Yale’s Black Men’s Union decided to share the harsh reality with not only Mike Brown’s parents, but also the world that “although our stories may differ, we know the fate of your son could also be the fate of any of us.”

The results: To My Unborn Son. A campaign in honor of Mike Brown.
