“People think Detroit is such a crazy city and is violent… I just don’t have those memories.”

Atlantic Records’ newcomer Dusty McFly shares with us more on his life growing up in Detroit, the new single “Paper” produced by Troy Taylor and JWriteDidIt and what it is like to be a signed artist to an international label. Dusty, born and raised in Detroit’s Brightmoor neighborhood, is the embodiment of all things Detroit, including the flamboyant fly (including the fur coats, Cartier frames and Gucci) and coolest cool (just laid back with it), all bundled into one energetic artist who endeavors to tell the real stories of Detroit life and influence the rap game while on his rise to fame.

Released mid-November, the Evergreen mixtape features 15 original tracks with guest appearances from a host of talent including Scotty ATL, Icewear Vezzo, Kirko Bangz, Maejor Ali, Kap G, Peej. Listen to Evergreen on LiveMixtapes.

Just after Christmas, catch Dusty McFly during the “Evergreen Tour” on December 29 in Detroit with special performances by Earlly MacSinoDetroit Che and more at the world famous venue, The Shelter. More information and tickets are available at Ticketmaster.com.

At :29 – Growing up in Detroit

Often assumed to be a “fight or flight” type city ridden with crime and violence, Dusty talks about his childhood in Detroit growing up on Evergreen and Fenkell, on Detroit’s westside.

At 1:58 – Getting in the zone

Most artists have a thought process or creative inspiration before writing songs, well for Dusty and “Paper”… there was no thought process. More on this during the interview.

At 2:58 – On going from being independent to signed to a label

Dusty shares more on transitioning from being independent and what that process is like.

“To go through an independent situation to a label, is kind of a rough transition.”

“I was the guy who was paying for things out of my own pockets…I was really independent.”
