In an interview on CBS News Face The Nation NYPD Commissioner William Bratton defended Mayor Bill De Blasio, and said it was “very inappropriate” for officers to turn their backs on the mayor at a slain Officer Rafael Ramos’s funeral

During the funeral for Officer Ramos this past Saturday, both Ramos and his partner, Officer Wenjian Liu, were promoted to First Grade Detective by Commissioner Bratton. In the Commissioner’s interview with CBSN , he was asked if he supported the actions of the NYPD officers during the slain officer’s funeral. His response was:

It was inappropriate, at the same time it’s reflective unfortunately of the feelings of some of our officers; that at this juncture about not just the mayor, but i think about just some of the many issues that are afflicting the city at this time in this particular police department.

During this holiday season, it’s apparent that the moral of New York City as a whole has changed after the tragic police shootings. The normal holiday hustle and bustle is not the same. It’s even more apparent when traveling throughout the five boroughs, and witnessing the scarce police presence in the communities. NYC’s only hope for the very system that has vowed to protect and serve its city; doesn’t turn its back on the community as it did its Mayor.
