Stealing your identity has just become easier. As the quality of cameras improves, there are new security issues that need to be considered. Can you imagine someone stealing your fingerprint from a photo? Hackers are reporting that a person’s fingerprint can be reproduced from using photos from their social media accounts that show their hand.
This is particularly important as biometrics are being used as a security measure instead of passwords. Since your fingerprint is unique and there is no one in the world with the same one, it seems as if using your fingerprint for security is a no brainer. However, the use of biometrics instead of passwords has raised tricky legal issues. Earlier this year a circuit court ruled that police can force someone to give them their fingerprints, but they can’t force them to give up their passwords in order to unlock their smart phones.
Many hackers believe it is stupid to use something that you can’t change and that you leave everywhere, every day as a security token.
As this issue is being explored and proven accurate, don’t be surprised to see politicians and celebrities hiding their hands in photos or wearing gloves. smh!
