Well renowned ESPN SportsCenter anchor Stuart Scott, died Sunday morning after fighting cancer since 2007
Stuart Scott Became noticeably ill in November of 2007, during a Steelers-Dolphins game, and had to have an emergency appendectomy. During surgery, a malignancy was discovered and he then underwent chemotherapy. In January 2011, Scott had cancerous tissue removed again, and began another round of chemotherapy. He continued his battle with cancer up until his untimely death this Sunday morning, at age 49.
In July of 2014 Stuart Scott was awarded the ESPYS Jimmy V Perseverance Award, when he received a standing ovation during his acceptance speech.
Born in Chicago, IL July 19, 1965, Stuart Scott attended the University of North Carolina. He completed his BA in Speech Communications and Radio, Television and Motion Pictures in 1987. Stuart worked as a reporter for the student radio station, played on a club football team, and became a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity. Scott joined ESPN in 1993 for the launch of ESPN2, quickly moving up the ranks as one of the network’s main SportsCenter anchors thanks to his rapid-fire delivery and catchy phrasing to describe highlights.
Known from his signature catchphrases like “Boo-Yah!” to “As cool as the other side of the pillow”, Stuart Scott has forever left his mark on sports history and American culture
