OJ Simpson’s stolen Heisman trophy was found, some twenty years later.

While O.J. Simpson was awaiting trial for the murder of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman, a burglary was taking place at Heritage Hall, the home of USC’s athletic department. The date was July 28, 1994 and according to reports, the burglars dismantled a Plexiglas display case, allowing them to take the university’s 1968 Heisman trophy and and O.J. jersey. The theft was later discovered the following morning by the school’s janitor.

Despite the oft news-breaking events surrounding the life of O.J. Simpson outside of football, this time he was almost completely in the clear. The Heisman trophy stolen in ’94 wasn’t his, but a duplicate.; the duplicate that is given to the university of the winning player and not the one given to Simpson himself in 1968, according to police.

The trophy was recovered by detectives assigned to the LAPD’s Art Theft Detail. Due to the investigation remaining open until the jersey is also recovered, police have given no further updates regarding how or where the trophy was found, but urge the public to reveal any information that they feel would help.

In case you forgot, Simpson’s own trophy was seized under a $33.5 million judgment after a civil court found Simpson liable for the deaths of Nicole Simpson and Goldman.
