As much as we complain about what’s wrong with America, there are a lot of things that we should be thankful for. And we don’t have to wait until Thanksgiving to recognize them. Things like food stamps may not be on your agenda for the week but that doesn’t mean that they’re not changing someone else’s life. We may be the 99% locally, but we’re the 1% globally.
Clothing brand, Anthem, and Homeboy Sandman just dropped a video for his poignant track “America the Beautiful,” shot in New York City by Kiki Humanmonochrome–one of Japan’s most celebrated music video directors. The track is taken from Hallways, released on Stones Throw in September.
Sandman sets up the track and the video:
Morale is kinda low these days. I know I’m the first cat to sound off when I’m not feeling something. But me personally, I started losing sight of all the good sh*t. The entirety of this video was shot within a 5 or 6 block radius of the building where I grew up (with the slight exception of Little India which is right up the street in Jackson Heights. While we were there we stopped by 82nd and Roosevelt for a sec to capture some Mexican flavor too). We went up Broadway and caught that Asian flavor and up 57th Ave and caught the wall of black heroes which is way smaller now than when Popeye’s bought that corner but still it was nice of them to preserve it. My neighborhood serves as a metaphor for the United States, with all the different flavors all mixed up making it work. And all the beauty of that.
