Nearly $1 million worth of weed was seized from two Colorado men in a traffic stop in Cherokee County
Deputies pulled over a Toyota van on I-85 near the 96 mile marker on Saturday afternoon. The vehicle was failing to stay in its own lane, the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office told WHNS-TV. When the deputy came close to the vehicle, he smelled marijuana coming from inside.
A sheriff’s office news release said the deputy was given consent to search the van. Inside, he found six boxes and a garbage bag filled with 156 vacuum-sealed packages of marijuana. Cash was also seized during the stop. They seized approximately 167.9 pounds of high-grade marijuana; worth more than $900,000 on the street. The drugs were headed for distribution on the streets of Charlotte, NC, officials say.
The two suspects from Colorado, Ken Choi Huang and Hue Chung Khee, were arrested and charged with Trafficking Marijuana. A press release reads,
This traffic stop is a major dent in the marijuana trade for this area as the drugs were scheduled for distribution in the Charlotte North Carolina area.
Both men are being held at the Cherokee County Detention Center without bond.
