Premiering this Sunday January 18, 2015 at 10 p.m. on MTV is “Nicki Minaj: My Time Again”.
This is the second installment of the rap sensation’s three-part documentary series. The hour-long special includes a highly anticipated behind the scenes look at what Minaj would consider her most personal album to date ”The Pinkprint”. Also captured was the controversial wardrobe malfunction at the 2014 VMA’s along side Ariana Grande and Jessie J during their performance of “Bang bang”. Fans or her “barbs” as she would call them saw the completely raw reaction to a truly upsetting moment for the star, when sites like TMZ referred to her malfunction as a stunt for attention.
Cameras then followed Minaj through the streets of her old neighborhood in Southside Jamaica, Queens; where she reveals some of her deepest childhood experiences. One of these experiences included dealing with a pregnancy she decided she was not yet ready to keep as she fought back tears.
Throughout the documentary, Minaj constantly stressed her longing to be with the people she loves the most, which is not necessarily always possible with the career path she chose.
Also dealing with a break up from her longtime boyfriend of over 11 years Safaree Samuels, fans get to see that the superstar is just like anyone else experiencing heartbreak. Her relationship and breakup is largely displayed in songs like “Grand Piano” and “Bed of Lies” featuring Skylar Grey.
This documentary shows her personal trials and tribulations that she has endured being a part of the game called fame. As the documentary comes to a close, the star wonders where she will be by the making of her third installment. Possibly a wife, mother and maybe even 20 albums into her career, but only time will tell.
