Some folks may turn up their noses at the thought of competitive division three basketball. To the contrary, there have been some pretty competitive D-3 players that have flourished in the NBA. Former Los Angeles Lakers forward Devean George and Seattle SuperSonics guard Jack Sikma, to name a few.
The division 3 gods were smiling last night. Riding a two game winning streak and up 81-65 over Manhattanville College, Eastern University pretty much had their cars warmed ready to get out of the gym and study for their biology exam the next day. With 2:08 remaining in the game, Eastern’s Austin James lobbed an inbounds pass over the top to Austin Carroll who was breaking free of Manhattanville’s press near halfcourt.
Carroll quickly caught the pass and released a pass of his own across the court to a sprinting Shaquan Turk. Turk elevated and with his head nearing the rim, threw down a one-handed slam igniting the excitement of all of the fans cheering in the student section. Turk finished the game with 17 points and 10 rebounds for the Eagles.
And homeboy created quite a poster! See for yourself:
Eastern University won the game 87-75.
