J. Cole’s newest addition to his roster, Cozz, talks the trajectory that led him from growing up in gang-affiliated South Central LA to living his dreams, and signing to J. Cole’s Dreamville label.

South Central LA rapper Cozz looks rather comfortable, seated in a plush red chair that resembles a throne, inside Russell Simmons’ posh All Def Digital offices, not too far from the gang-affiliated neighborhoods he grew up in.  He opens his discussion frankly and honestly:  ”I don’t just rap, man, I’m an artist,” says Cozz, with a candid nonchalance that he maintains throughout the interview. as he discusses his first ever performance (which took place alongside J. Cole during the Dollar & a Dream tour; no pressure, or anything!), his first time rapping, and his latest project, Cozz & Effect, which is out now.
