“It’s so extraordinary and so over the top that I don’t know if I can even comprehend it still to this day.” admitted Brian Littrell in the new tell-all documentary “Backstreet Boys: Show Em’ What You’re Made Of.”
Finally, the legendary 90’s and early 2000’s boy band speaks out about their story. Filled with both the ups and downs of their rise to stardom and present day, this documentary is sure to bring a wave of nostalgia to 90’s fangirls, while also giving the new generation an idea of what music used to be all about.
The film follows the reunited boy band as they prepare for their 20th anniversary world tour in 2013. Prepare to get up close and personal with Nick, Howie, Brian, A.J. and Kevin as they reveal the nitty gritty side of fame. Kevin Richardson reminisces, “…94 to about 2002 it was non stop, album after album, tour after tour, that was 9 years straight of touring … we were done.”
Although the film touches upon some conflict within the group, viewers will also enjoy tender moments as the film takes us through the origins of Backstreet Boys and introduce influential members of their lives. We also get a feel of how much and how little things have changed through the years. As the oldest, Kevin always saw the others as his little brothers, but it really hits home when 20 years later, we see Kevin passionately tell the group, “Not only are we group members and business partners, but we’re family.”
The film’s masterful blend of past and present gracefully frames Backstreet Boys’ rise from a group of small town boys to the sensation of a decade and is definitely worth a watch whether you’re a fan or not. When Backstreet Boys achieved superstardom with the release of “Millenium” in 1999, Kevin reminisced, “I remember feeling a little overwhelmed and wondering how long this can last.” With the band still intact with plans to continue touring in Spring 2015, I think it’s safe to say that Backstreet’s back, alright!
