Ok, we’ll be honest…

Over the past few months, news of the Fantastic Four reboot, such as Dr. Doom being reduced to a angry computer nerd, made our hopes for the film being anything more than terrible increasingly slim. Considering the disaster that was the 2005 Fantastic Four film and its 2007 sequel, most aren’t expecting much from the reboot, but the film’s first trailer might change your mind. It changed ours.

While the trailer doesn’t give us a great deal of plot, it does show us that we can expect a much grittier film this time around oppose to the cheesy jokes, and cartoonish, vibrant aesthetic of the film’s predecessors (think Tim Burton’s Batman vs. Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begin) .

A synopsis by 20th Century Fox gives us an idea of the reboot’s direction:

A contemporary re-imagining of Marvel’s original and longest-running superhero team, centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy.

Sounds promising enough.
