Jennifer Lopez makes a convincing case as to why the term “cougar” should be retired.
In her latest movie, The Boy Next Door, J. Lo plays a woman who’s seduced (and subsequently stalked by) a 19 year old. She’s also dated a younger man in real life (Casper Smart), which had many calling the spicy Latina a “cougar,” which, as it turns out, is actually a term J. Lo hates.
J. Lo was spotted with a younger man again, recently, walking the red carpet at the Golden Globes. When Ellen DeGeneres questioned her about her speculated relationship with Ryan Guzman, her 27 year old co-star, Lopez shrugged off the rumors, saying they were just promoting the movie together. It does, after all, make sense. Can she live?!
Even if they were dating, Lopez hates that she’s been referred to as a cougar. ”I hate that they have, like, a label for a woman who would date a younger guy. If a younger guy is interested in you, what’s the big deal?”
La Lopez even said that she doesn’t seek out younger men, then pointed out there’s a double standard: ”I’m not after younger guys. If younger guys like me, then that’s one thing,” she said. ”But there’s, like, guys who just go after younger women. They have no name, no label.”
And, in her defense, it’s not hard to understand why younger men like J. Lo; after all, she’s better looking at her age than many women younger than her!
