Men are taking nearly double the amount of selfies per week as women, and sharing them on social media… Even President Obama takes selfies.

While Instagram is full of millions of photos of scantily dressed women with their asses faced into the camera, President Obama and VP Biden Selfieyounger guys are twice as likely to post a selfie. Men post selfies at a rate of approximately three times a week.

The majority of the photos posted (76%) show off their bodies, while less than half of women’s selfies (45%) do the same.  Seems unimaginable with all the booty shots women put up, but according  to the Irish Examiner it’s true.  More specifically, men are mostly likely to show off their chests (20%), while women are most likely to feature their faces (55%).

And what’s behind all the men’s selfies? Women, generally. About a quarter of the male respondents ages 18 to 30 say they’re posting to make a current or former partner jealous—that’s about twice as high as the percentage of women who do the same—and another 10% say it’s to make themselves appear more desirable to a potential mate.

The term “selfie” was first used in a forum post on an Australian website in 2002, but has since exploded. With social media networks such as Facebook and Instagram as well as dating apps growing in popularity, having the best possible photos of ourselves is now more important than ever.

What type of man posts selfies? According to a new study led by Ohio State University Professor Jesse Fox, men who post a lot of selfies to the web tend to exhibit higher levels of narcissism and psychopathy. LOL
