Actor, Leonard Nimo  has died.

Known most notably as Captain Spock on the 1960′s hit television show Star Trek, he was second in command to Captain James T. Kirk (William Shattner) on the starship USS Enterprise.

Nimo was hospitalized earlier this week in Bel-Air, CA with the cause of death described as end-stage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

His death was confirmed by his wife, Susan Bay Nimoy.

Playing Captain Spock on Star Trek, Nimoy reminded the world, the way of the Vulcan: Live Long and Prosper.

According to Nimoy,  it was adapted from a gesture he remembered from attending an Orthodox synagogue in childhood.

It appears that Nimoy knew his death was near. Earlier this week, he tweeted:

A life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory. LLAP
