If you like The Wire, Breaking Bad, Empire, The Sopranos and the litany of other cutting edge Television shows that have riveted viewers over the last 15 years, than you will love Transitions.

Transitions is an American drama series set and produced in and around Washington DC. It explores the real life legends of such gangster luminaries as Wayne Perry, Michael Fray and Cornell Jones. Drama City has produced a colorful cast of engaging characters over the years that rival those in epic movies like Scarface and American Gangster. The city’s underworld and criminal landscape has been rife with the  type of charismatic and intriguing outlaws that pop culture adores and now Hanibal Chancellor is bringing those tales to life in his new crime series Transitions.

“The web series I got has a lot of underworld figures from the Washington DC area,” Hanibal tells Don Diva. “It’s inspired by true stories. Growing up in DC I felt there’s a lot of untold stories that the world needs to see, so I felt like I wanted to be the one to paint the picture.”

Hanibal has been a part of the entertainment world for over 15 years producing music and videos with Overdose Entertainment, eventually moving into acting in Hollywood produced films such as; Southpaw directed by Antoine Fuqua, Will Smith’s Concussions and Netflix’s House of Cards. Along the journey he came up with the concept for his own series.

“The idea for Transitions came from a music video I did with an artist called Fatz Da Big Fella.” Hanibal says. “We were filming the music video like a movie, and I had a lot of characters from The Wire in it, to give it that Wire feel. It came out so well I decided I wanted to make a movie. I soon realized I couldn’t make a movie because theres so much to tell in a short period of time. The only way I could tell the true story of these various characters was to make it a series.” So Transitions was born.

“We have the Michael Fray, Cornell Jones and other underworld figures stories from Washington DC as well as other major cities,” Hanibal says. “We have a Panamanian connection bringing the heroin in that we took from the Javier ‘Panama’ Card story. We got a character in Transitions whose story is based off Frank Matthews from New York. We have a character named Rahman Abdul whose character emulates Wayne Perry. There are so many different characters that we pulled out from the 70s and 80s then incorporated them into now. Even the feds storyline is real life. We have a character named Andrew Schaffer who emulates an FBI agents story. The heroin epidemic in our story has already happened or is happening in real life. We really want to start telling the stories that haven’t been told. The story is set in the present with an 80s feel. The characters are mainly from the 70s and 80s.”

transitions-box-00The series is about to drop on the Internet and a TV series in in the works. “We have teasers out now online.” Hanibal says. “We will be dropping the official trailer soon and dropping the Transitions web series March 4 through an app. If people are interested in the Transitions crime series they can log onto www.transitionsseries.com and subscribe to the site and get all updated notifications on what is going on with the series.”

Season one is in the can and with the teasers building hype the series is drawing attention. “Season 1 has eight episodes.” Hanibal says. “For the web series they are 5-8 minutes each. They are inspired by true stories and not just in the Washington DC area but other cities as well.”

Transitions is a story based on legendary figures of the cities street lore but every city has its own hood stars and the secret to Transition is that its story encompasses every cities true story. Heroin has creeped into every part of our society and Hanibal’s series portrays that and the impact  it has on families in our society.

As anticipation for the series builds Hannibal is getting ready to start filming season two that takes the series from its Washington DC roots to across the nation. “Season two is when we are going to start stretching out to Detroit, Pittsburgh, Miami, Dominican Republic and Panama too.” He says.

Finally someone is bringing the street legends of Washington DC to the screen and its a native son, Northwest/Uptown born and bred Hannibal Chancellor.
