An elite group of music industry folks got to see the first trailer for Amy, which will be in theaters later this year.
The one minute long trailer was played during CEO Lucian Grainge’s Pre-Grammy Universal Music Showcase and Brunch at The Ace Hotel on Feb. 7. In the clip Amy Winehouse reflected on fame and it looks like it’s going to be an amazing doc.
David Joseph, the Chairman and Chief Executive or Universal Music UK & Ireland said in in his introduction:
Seven years ago tomorrow, Amy Winehouse won five Grammy awards. At that time, that was the biggest ever achievement for a British female artist at the Grammys. Black to Black went on to sell 10 million copies and established her as one of the greatest recording artists of all time. There are a lot of people in this room at Universal who were incredibly close to her, from Lucian, who signed her, through to Monte and the team of Republic, who broke her in America.
Around two years ago, we decided to make a movie about her, her career and her life, and we worked with a team who had made a documentary feature called Senna, which was an amazing film. Since then, they’ve created an absolutely spectacular movie. It’s about her life. It’s a very complicated and tender movie. It tackles lots of things about family, media, fame, addiction, but most importantly, it captures the very heart of what she was about, which is an amazing person and a true musical genius.
We’re incredibly proud about the film that we’ve made. We decided a couple of days ago, we’re working on a trailer, it’s not really going to be ready for about a month or so, but we thought it’s befitting of what’s happening with the Grammys to show you something today. It’s the first time anyone has seen anything, and it’s something we’re incredibly proud of.
Grainge added after the clip was shown, “Just seeing that clip, which is the first time I’ve seen that put together … really brought back some memories.”
